The idea for Club Yachats came to me back in 2000 or 2001… Somewhere Way back then. I wanted to create a website that could be a local blog for creators and writers in the area to participate in contributing their ideas and thoughts in a central location. And I wanted it to have the ring sort of like Club Med you know, but Club Yachats never really caught on as being a centralized blog because of monster conglomerates like Facebook and Twitter and those kinds of sites.
Besides myself, there were a couple writers that were very active in the early 2000’s especially up to about 2008. One was a very famous writer and musician, Rick Schultze. He has posted hundreds and hundreds of stories on the site and others before we met in Yachats. The crazy thing about Rick Schultze is we met each other in the 1970s because he was a music booking agent, and I was a leader of a rock ‘n’ roll band so to speak.
It’s amazing how things like that happen in Yachats. There are several people that live here that we have known for some time many who have gone to the same high school as Linda and I, many that have lived in the same high school town of Sacramento. It’s amazing to meet them in this environment and rekindle old friendships.
Anyway, Rick Schultze passed away 01/03/2024 at the age of 81 years. He lived a good life, and leaves a great legacy to those who loved, and knew him. His stories, antics and writings are going to remain on this blog as long as it lives. It’s amazing that his work is still quite popular and receives more visits and requests than any of mine for example.
Another writer that worked actively on this blog until 2008 was Crystal Hayes. She has a category relating to the historical relationships of end with food. It’s quite interesting to read her articles.
So talking about Club Yachats it’s a work in progress. I hope you enjoy what you see and experience as you wander through the pages and posts here.
