In the Special Election the measure 21-197 to provide funding for The Lincoln County Library District and five Libraries in Lincoln City, Newport, Siletz, Toledo and Waldport, passed by a wide margin.
This shows the communities respect and use of these hubs of activity and knowledge available to all that want to take advantage of these fine places.
A dictionary definition of a Library is “ a curated collection of, sources of information and similar resources, selected by experts, and made available to a defined community for reference or borrowing. It provides physical and digital access to material, and may be a physical location or a virtual space or both.”
For example, what we have in Waldport is a Library with a physical address and digital access to material. But more than that it is a Library that is very active and important to the community. The staff of the Library are extremely knowledgeable and caring. Their hearts are into what they do.
If you have a vision of a Library as a rigid stuffy reading room, think again. The Libraries in this County are welcoming and innovative. In addition to being a source of knowledge, these Libraries prove spaces for a variety of classes, and local artists to display their art. And they have programs for the youth in the area. What once could have been a “boring” visit to the Library now could be an “exciting” trip to a magical place. Library’s hold an enormous amount of information and access to the digital world.
Folks who live on The Central Oregon Coast and those who visit here are fortunate to have these Libraries available to them to visit and use! Check out a Library near you and you won’t be disappointed.
