Today I spotted Krokos and Daffodils bursting forth outside and the sight of them knocked my internal clock into the Springtime mode. I know it’s not “officially” Spring, but when the sun breaks up the bleak, wet, weather I start mulling over the Choices I have. Like for instance; talking a walk, washing the salt off my car, picking up debris from the latest storm, or just sitting outside doing nothing. Simple Choices to make but there are other Choices we’re going to be looking at that aren’t going to be that simple like the one coming near the end of this year when we will be Choosing the next President of the United States. Currently the Choices are a mixed bag; a woman, an evangelistic man, a man of color, and a former POW. They all appear to have the qualities necessary for a job that big but over the next few months they all are going to try to persuade you to Choose them.
Then what about Choosing to go green and becoming environmentally conscious? To commit to that could mean changes in lifestyles and consumption patterns and it can be hard to leave some things behind. Another set of Choices are the ones in the self beautification and body betterment category. Okay, do you want an enlargement of body parts, a new stint put in your heart to give you more energy, or a nip and tuck here and there to tighten the old body up a bit? And then there is one of taking Human Growth Hormones (HGH) to avoid diseases and conditions associated with aging and to improve vitality and appearance? That one is a hot topic these days given the Steroid scandal in Major League Baseball.
Now that’s some serious Choosing but a funny Choice popped up in my life recently; the Choice of where to pick up some fast food on a trip I took to Portland. Where I live there are no fast food places so I hardly ever get it but Portland has hundreds of Choices. Not just your standard hamburger and fries, but every kind of fast food you want. The menus run the gambit from A to Z; Artichoke Hearts to Zebra Cakes.
Well my time for eating was limited so I had to narrow my choices to a handful close to the hotel where I was staying. Fortunately I was saved by a group of teenagers who were at a convention there also and were breaking for lunch. They were voicing their Choices of the spots near us so I listened to their descriptions and Choose their favorite one. It was delicious, fast and cheap; they were young but they sure made the right Choice in my mind!
