It’s the hype or the pre-game show that gets you! That is the motor that runs the car. Back in the day circus’s used an advance person to ahead and get the hype going in whatever town they were visiting. Today the advance person is Television. The hype starts sooner for the event and with TV coverage the hype is everywhere and often for the upcoming event.
The best example of hype today is sporting events. Actually hype can be best described as anticipation. Just like the Carly Simon song “Anticipation” the time prior to the event is spent telling you what a big deal the event is going to be. If done correctly the hype will have you ready and waiting with anticipation for the day of the event.
Sports uses hype the best. It can start a week or so in advance of the big game. As the time prior to the event dwindles the hype heats up. It goes from just hyping the game to inside looks of the players, the team and sometimes the city, The hype becomes a drama with a multitude of endings. But the bottom line is that if you get caught up in the hype there is no way you are going to miss the game.
However, sports hype is just a fraction of the hype we get on a daily basis. American society is full of hype for just about anything. The trick of it all is to take what you are interested in and let the hype take you away, it’s free and there is plenty of it! Enjoy it all!!
