You read or hear about it quite often; companies decide to close their operations in a town or city. When that happens it’s a big adjustment to those impacted by that move. I know, I used to live in Yachats and wham, one day we had no gas station or bank!
Suddenly banking and fueling up took on a whole new meaning! Fortunately for me, it was simple. I stayed with my bank which has a branch thirty some miles away instead of just a block or two away, and then got fuel eight miles away in Waldport.
But not all was gloom and doom! I developed a new way to look at Newport, where my bank is, and found myself enjoying Waldport a lot more! Since I was in Waldport more frequently I discovered places to shop, eat, and generally be merry!
Of course in the Yachats coffee shops and watering holes there was an outcry and complaints but as of today that has died down!
It’s a part of human nature, if something is taken away someone is gonna complain. But as Oregonians have survived many changes and will continue to do so, that’s why I’m proud to be an Oregonian, bring on the changes if necessary, and we will continue to excel!
Cheers!
